Version 4.0.3
- Fixed: some newer messages — macOS charging to 100% on its own, the battery being held at 100% until you unplug, the warning that your charge limit isn’t holding, and the warning about sleep during a manual discharge — appeared in English, or as an internal identifier, when BatFi runs in another language. They are now translated into every language BatFi supports.
Version 4.0.2
- Fixed: closing the menu could, on rare occasions, freeze BatFi — the menu bar icon stopped responding to clicks and the only way out was to force quit. Your charge limit kept working the whole time, because the part of BatFi that enforces it runs separately. The cause was a bug in a third-party library BatFi relies on; BatFi now uses a version in which it is fixed.
Version 4.0.1
- Fixed: when “Charge to 100%” finished, BatFi handed the full battery straight back to your charge limit — and if you have “Discharge battery when overcharged” turned on, it began draining away the charge you had just asked for, seconds after it arrived. It now keeps the battery at 100% until you unplug the charger, and says so in the menu.
- Fixed: lowering your charge limit below the current battery level made the menu announce that macOS was charging to 100%, and send a notification saying so, while the power distribution right underneath showed the battery draining. BatFi now reads which way the current is actually flowing instead of taking the system’s word for it.
- Fixed: a charge limit below 80% could be reported as failed while it was still being applied — macOS can take up to 45 seconds to accept one, and BatFi gave up waiting after 15. It now waits as long as the apply is allowed to take.
Version 4.0.0
BatFi 4.0.0 changes the way charging is controlled deep down, so it keeps working on macOS 27.
- Fixed: “Charge to 100%” could switch itself off the instant you switched it on, so the first click looked like it did nothing and you had to click a second time. It now stays on until you turn it off or the charger has genuinely been unplugged for two minutes — and switching it on while the battery already reads 100% holds the charge there, instead of letting it drain back to your limit.
- New charging backend. BatFi now asks your Mac's firmware what it can actually do, instead of guessing from the macOS version. Options your Mac doesn't support are hidden, so Settings no longer shows options that do nothing.
- Works on macOS 27, where Apple replaced the mechanism BatFi had always relied on. The charge limit can go below 80% there, and the menu explains what macOS is doing to your battery when it takes over.
- Automation rebuilt: a clearer rule editor, address search that works, and location rules that use geofencing instead of following you around.
- More reliable, especially the background helper — BatFi checks that it belongs to this copy of the app, recovers when it stops answering, and shuts it down properly when you quit.
- Many bug fixes.
Version 3.1.1
- Fixed: "Run on Battery" could turn itself off shortly after you unplugged the charger. BatFi clears leftover charge limit overrides at that point, and it was clearing this one too. Run on Battery now stays on until you turn it off.
- Notifications and the Charging settings pane now show the charge limit an active Automation rule applies, so you can tell when a rule is overriding your limit.
Version 3.1.0
- New: Automation. Your charge limit can now change by itself based on when and where you are. Create rules in the new Automation settings pane. Each rule has its own charge limit, and you can give it a schedule, a location, or both.
- The menu now shows the currently active automation rule, so you always know what's affecting charging.

Version 2.1.0
- macOS 15 removed the System 80% Charging Limit option. The keyword here is “system.” An option in BatFi, disabled by default, automatically turned on the system charging limit when the Mac was about to go to sleep. It was useful when the Mac was charging, and the battery state was still below the given limit, and the user put it to sleep. This option would turn on the system charging limit, which would charge the computer to 80% and then stop, even while in sleep mode, reliably. Obviously, it wasn’t useful at all if the user had a limit set to anything other than 80%. Anyone using this version of macOS, or those who updated it on a separate volume, will lose this functionality, even when running macOS 13 or 14. The update hides the toggle switch in the app’s settings for macOS 15 users
- The update introduces options to display the last time the battery was discharged and fully charged
- A new option provides a notification about battery calibration when the battery hasn’t been discharged for over a month
- The status icon is now more customizable, with a new option to display the battery percentage next to it
- Improved app reliability
Version 2.0.2
- macOS 15 Beta 5 removed the System charging limit option. Anyone using this macOS version, or even those who updated it on a separate volume, will lose this functionality, even on macOS 13 or 14. Unfortunately, this change breaks BatFi, and this update silently ignores errors caused by this issue. If you haven’t updated macOS, everything will work as before. In the meantime, I will look for a workaround if one exists.
